Miranda Webster is the talent and content creator behind REI’s YouTube series, “Miranda in the Wild.” She’s worked in the outdoor industry for over a decade, starting in the REI store near her hometown in Virginia. Born and raised a city kid, Miranda didn’t discover an outdoorsy lifestyle until her fellow REI employees encouraged her to try backpacking – and despite a tough first trip, Miranda fell in love with the outdoors. She’s a camper, hiker, backpacker, climber, and eager cyclist, and has created a career out of sharing knowledge of the outdoors through adventure and humor.
In 2019, Miranda partnered with Rainer Golden and the REI Co-op Studios Team to create “Miranda in the Wild.” The goal was to break the cycle of overly serious and seemingly unobtainable outdoor content online, and instead share content that reflected the joyous, and event silly side of camping and hiking, helping people to feel welcome, and answer some of the big questions: what do you eat, what do you pack, and where do you poop? From there, the series continues to grow in popularity with thousands of followers, and over 45K subscribers, and has branched into backpacking adventures, kayak camping, van life, and, now, road tripping. Miranda is grateful to REI for helping her discover backpacking, and strives to help everyone feel empowered, welcomed, and encouraged to find their own version of a life outside.
